The NBE is a comprehensive examination. Many states accept the results of the National Board Examination in lieu of part or all of the written state board examination. The Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards administers the NBE at testing sites during the year. CCMS performance on the National Board has been consistent.

Students must complete all requirements for graduation before taking the National Board Examination which, effective in 2004, will be a computer-based examination taken at remote sites. All graduates must take the NBE as a part of the degree requirement.
