Mike Wells has served as the Director of Library and Information Technology at CCMS since January 2011. As a graduate of the Kent State University School of Library and Information Science, Mr. Wells has extensive experience with integrating new technologies into the library environment. Mike is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and holds an Associate of Technical Studies degree from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Prior to working at CCMS, he served for 5 years as the Manager of the Center for Information Management at Miami University and has over 10 years of corporate IT experience.
Central to his belief for the future of academic libraries is the idea that libraries are no longer places to simply store information, but are active learning centers where information can be adapted into student knowledge. Along with this belief, is the conception that academic libraries should be the center of a campus for technology support and campus activities making the library the "hub" of all aspects of student success.
While at Miami University, Mike was a 2010 winner of a Miami Pride Award, and was awarded a successful grant funding a program to recycle electronics materials for Miami University Libraries. Also in 2010, Mike was honored to serve on an expert panel at the OhioLink PCirc Conference in Columbus, Ohio discussing “Student Leadership and Management in Libraries” and also presented at the 2010 Academic Libraries of Ohio (ALAO) conference. Currently, Mike holds membership in the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and the Ohio Preservation Council. Mr. Wells is a strong proponent of health and fitness, enjoying leisure activities ranging from golf to running and biking.
