Degree Programs

CCMS offers two degree programs – the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) and the Bachelor of Mortuary Science (B.M.S.). The degree best suited for you depends on the state in which you plan on working and your educational background.

Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)

The associate of applied science program consists of 3 semesters and takes approximately 12 months to complete. It is a full-time, on-campus program. (CCMS does not offer part-time or online classes at this time.) Students in this program also receive Certified Crematory Operator training.

For applicants who:

1. Are planning on working in any state EXCEPT Ohio or Minnesota

OR

2. Are planning on working in Ohio or Minnesota AND have already earned a Bachelor’s degree (in any field, not necessarily Mortuary Science)

Bachelor of Mortuary Science (B.M.S.)

bachelor of mortuary science bachelor of mortuary science degreeThe bachelor of mortuary science degree program consists of 4 semesters and takes approximately 15-16 months to complete.  It is a full-time, on-campus program. (CCMS does not offer part-time or online classes at this time.) Students in this program also receive Celebrant training (in addition to the Certified Crematory Operator training taken in the A.A.S. program).

For applicants who:

1. Our mortuary science degree is best for those who are planning on working in Ohio or Minnesota and have NOT already earned a Bachelor’s degree (in any field, not necessarily Mortuary Science)

OR

2. Are planning on working in Ohio or Minnesota and HAVE already earned a Bachelor’s degree but would like a second bachelor’s of mortuary science degree.

State licensing requirements are determined by each state and are compiled on the National Funeral Directors Association’s website.
