Additional notes:
The history of Green-Larsen Mortuary can be traced back to one of the original settlers in the village of Koochiching, which later became International Falls; his name was George Green. Mr. Green operated a hardware business and was later persuaded by his son, Frank Green to add caskets to his hardware line. In the early days, principally because of a lack of passable roads and wheeled vehicles, the coffin, as it was known then, was often purchased by the settler in advance of need. In 1911 Frank B. Green, founder of Green Mortuary, completed the course in mortuary science in Minneapolis, despite his activities in this fast growing community. In addition to his stock of hardware and builders supplies, he operated the first fuel oil agency, a sheet metal shop, a theater, and a 5&10 cent store. Associated in funeral service at various times from 1910 to 1922 were Frank’s two brothers, Dr. Robert G. Green and R.V. Green who were engaged in funeral service in Fort Frances, Ontario. In 1938, a second generation emerged, Frank’s son Grover and his wife Lillian took over running the business and later built the new Green Funeral Home at it’s present location on the corner of fourth street and sixth avenue in 1965. In October of 1968, the Green family became associated with Norman Larsen, who moved to International Falls from Minneapolis. Norman and his wife Nancy, purchased the funeral home from the Green family in January of 1969 and the firm then became known as Green-Larsen Mortuary. Today the funeral home remains a locally owned and family run business by the Larsen Family. Leif Larsen who joined the firm as a licensed mortician in 1999, took over ownership of the business in 2010 and he and his staff continue to serve the community of International Falls and surrounding area with caring and compassionate service.
