About Distance Education:
We are excited to be offering both our Associate of Applied Science and our Bachelor of Mortuary Science programs in an online format. What does this look like for you?
As we launch the program offerings, they will be in a synchronous format which means you will need to log in at a specific day and time for class via zoom. In the near future, we will be working toward transitioning to an asynchronous format allowing students to complete their coursework throughout the week without a set time to log into class.
Our online program will be a full-time program taught by experts in the death care profession and will align with our seated, in-person program.
Students entering into the distance education programs will be required to complete their hands-on clinical lab trainings with a local funeral home near you that meets all required approvals from CCMS.
Are you wondering if an online program is right for you? Take our Student Self-Assessment quiz to help guide you in your decision.
*Please be advised that the online format is still pending accreditation approval from HLC and ABFSE, as well as Title IV financial aid funding.

- Web Camera, speakers, and microphone (video conferencing and proctored exams)
- Reliable internet connection with recommended speeds of 8 Mbps download/2Mbps upload

Do I have to come to CCMS during my online program?
Yes, students participating in the online CMP program are required to complete an in-person evaluation and embalming after the completion of their 30 required cases in person at the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science facility. This embalming will be evaluated by a CCMS instructor to confirm proficiency in the clinical skills required for graduation. This will be scheduled and coordinated with the CMP Coordinator.
What potential challenges may students face with online courses?
Time Management: Managing time effectively is crucial and students may struggle without structure of a traditional classroom.
Lack of Communication: Online courses often require asynchronous communication which can lead to misunderstanding and delayed responses. Be sure to stay engaged and maintain communication.
Technical Difficulties: Technical issues can disrupt the learning process. Ensure a stable internet connection and devices are updated.
Lack of Social Interaction: Lack of face-to-face interaction can reduce motivation and diminish sense of support.
Distractions at Home: Without the physical separation of a classroom, it can be difficult to stay focused.
Adapting New Learning Styles: Students are required to take more responsibility with online learning and adjusting to self-paced learning may be difficult.
