2024-2025 FAFSA UPDATE

The 2024-25 FAFSA is required for the Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 terms for students who started their programs at CCMS for Fall 2023 and wish to receive financial aid.  For Spring 2024 starts as well as Fall 2024 starts who wish to receive financial aid, the 2024-25 FAFSA will be required for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 terms.

As you may already know, the 2024-25 FAFSA has undergone a major overhaul with many changes to data collection and submission due to the implementation of the FAFSA Simplification Act.  The availability of the 2024-25 FAFSA was scheduled for late 2023/early 2024, which is later than the normal October 1 availability date, and went live on December 31, 2023.  The 2024-25 FAFSA form is now fully available at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/login/ for you to file.

Along with the 2024-25 FAFSA overhaul, there have been issues and problems on the Federal side along the way which may affect processing times.  As a school, CCMS is committed to processing all aid in timely and accurate manner, and we will begin to review files as soon as we receive them to assure accuracy and will follow up with students needing to submit additional information (Federal verification, error resolution, etc.) immediately.  We will begin processing as quickly as possible for complete files and continue to process as we receive files.

Thank you for your patience as the Federal Student Aid Programs work through this challenging process.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

FAFSA

There is a large number of students in need of help with college tuition. While there are many different sources of college financial aid, there is one main application that is used to apply for most funding – the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

CCMS awards aid for two-semester award years starting with the student's term of entry.  For example, a Bachelor of Mortuary Science (BMS) student starting in Fall 2024 would file the 2024-2025 FAFSA for aid awards for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.  This same student would need to submit the 2025-2026 FAFSA for aid awards for Summer 2025 and Fall 2025.  Another example would be an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Mortuary Science student starting in Spring 2025; this student would need to file the 2024-2025 FAFSA for awards in Spring 2025 and Summer 2025.  For Fall 2025, the AAS student would need to file the 2025-2026 FAFSA.

Application tips:

  • Make sure you sign up for a FSA User ID before you begin. Here are sign-up instructions.
  • Starting with the 2024-2025 FAFSA, each contributor must have his or her own FSA ID.  A contributor is defined for this purpose by the Federal Student Aid Programs as :
    • anyone (student, the student's spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or the parent's spouse) who's required to provide information on the FAFSA form
  • Complete the FAFSA to apply for state and federal aid programs.
  • Be sure to list the CCMS school code (also called the OPE ID or Title IV School Code) on your FAFSA: 010906
  • You must file a FAFSA each year to be considered for college financial aid.

Once your application has been received, the Office of Student Financial Aid may ask you to submit additional documents if you’re selected for verification information. Check your CCMS email account often, and make sure to submit any additional documents as quickly as possible.
