ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL CREMATION CENTER LAB

 

This position serves to assist the Director of the Educational Cremation Center (ECC) in teaching courses to students, and to ensure the continuity and integrity of cremation records of a small, private, not for profit, regionally and professionally accredited higher education institution. The Assistant Director of the Educational Cremation Center Lab  works directly with all constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, as well as federal and state agencies and accreditors to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and Department of Education standards. The best fit candidate is organized, attentive to detail, articulate, outgoing, has a positive and attentive disposition, and presents him/her/them self in a professional, warm, inviting manner at all times.

Essential Job Functions – Educational Cremation Center Lab Director

 

·        Ensure safety standards are upheld and protocols in place at all times including fulfilling all required standards and testing for compliance agencies.

  • Assists with supervision of all ECC lab personnel.
  • Conducts cremations according to College protocols and standards at the direction of the ECC Director.
  • Conducts alkaline hydrolysis cremations according to College protocols and standards at the direction of the ECC Director.
  • Serves as liaison with funeral homes who use the College for cremations.  Meets with client families in conjunction with funeral home director as required.
  • Coordinates the provision for receptions for client families as directed; works with caterer and other college personnel to assure smooth services are provided.
  • Advises and directs students in cremation and alkaline hydrolysis processes and procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate coverage of ECC lab at all applicable times in conjunction with ECC director.
  • Assists with maintaining ECC lab equipment, scheduling preventive maintenance and assisting with preparing budgets for replacements when appropriate.

·        Completes timely billing of work done for donor organizations, University of Cincinnati, funeral homes and other agencies, provided to bookkeeper weekly

·        Assists in reporting appropriate and accurate payroll records for all ECC lab personnel to bookkeeper as scheduled.

·        Assists in maintaining proper inventory levels of all materials related to the work done in the ECC lab (supplies, PPE, equipment, instruments, cleaning supplies, plastics, etc.)

·        Assists with managing use of retort, pet alkaline hydrolysis machine, and ECC lab essentials according to documented protocol.

·        Assists with preparation and maintenance of annual ECC lab budget as directed.

·        Completes other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science from an ABFSE accredited institution required.
  • Ohio licensed funeral director and embalmer required.
  • Ohio Crematory Operator Permit (CROP) or ability to obtain permit within 45 days of hire required.
  • Must be a citizen of and/or authorized to work in the United States

Employment Classifications and FLSA Status

 

  • Administrative Position
  • Salaried/Exempt
  • Full-time / On-Site (40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, occasional evening/weekend; hours may vary due to cremation needs)
  • Eligible for annual merit bonus
